I watched the "Moana 2" movie. Once again, I was blindsided by one of the songs. (Lin-Manuel Miranda is rapidly becoming one of my least-favourite songwriters: I keep getting hit by lines out of his songs, even though the songs themselves may not be particularly deep.)
For those not familiar with the movies, Moana is a "wayfinder," a navigator for the island peoples of the Pacific Ocean. As this song opens, she has been encouraged to find a way to an island. And what hit me was a couple of lines saying "If I go beyond/Leaving all I love behind ..." She is trying to decide between staying with what she knows and loves, or risking it by going after something new.
I certainly understand that. But I don't have a choice. I have lost what I had. I am trying to explore many new things, to try and find some reason to stay alive.
So far: not a sausage ...
